Job Description: Finance Assistant                                                                          FLSA: Non-Exempt
 
General Summary:                                                                                             
The Finance Assistant for the Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton, Iowa, reports to the Director of Finance. Position provides administrative and other support to the Finance department to maintain proper checks and balances for the department.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides various aspects of financial administration support such as:

  1. Records weekly bank deposits

  2. Reviews monthly reconciled bank account and investment reports

  3. Accounts Payable

    1. Compares check payment to invoice for accuracy

    2. Signs checks

    3. Processes payments for mailing

    4. Files paid invoices

  4. Checks for accuracy of payroll reconciliation

  5. Checks for accuracy of monthly balance sheet and summary income statement

2. Maintains confidentiality regarding Sister, employee, and facility business
3. Performs other duties related to finance office as directed
 
Working Conditions:
Generally, normal part-time office hours; however, hours must be flexible to meet the needs of the congregation. The position is estimated to require approximately 8 hours per week, except for fiscal year end.
 
Accountability:
The Finance Assistant reports directly to the Director of Finance.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
a. Supportive of the mission of the Sisters of St. Francis, Clinton, IA
b. Knowledge of not-for-profit entities
c. Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field preferred
d. Knowledgeable in basic accounting/bookkeeping practices and procedures
e. Basic understanding of investments and financial markets
f. Attentiveness to details and accuracy
g. Strong ethics, with an ability to manage confidential data
h. Proficient in Microsoft Office, general computer skills, accounting/payroll software
i. A high level of integrity, honesty, and confidentiality
j. Ability to work well with others
k. Good communication skills
l. Ability to sit for sustained periods and to carry files
m. Understanding of the Catholic Church and religious life (Preferred)
