Senior Life Solutions at MercyOne Dyersville Medical Center provides outpatient services tailored to the unique needs of individuals (typically 65 and older) who could benefit from developing coping and communication skills to improve their mental health. The program offers group and individual therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication management. The Senior Life Solutions team at MercyOne Dyersville includes a board-certified psychiatrist, licensed therapists, a registered nurse and other professionals dedicated to the emotional well-being of older adults in our community.
“The Senior Life Solutions at MercyOne Dyersville provides our community with an evidence- and outcomes-based treatment proven to significantly improve older adults’ mental health,” said Karla Menadue, RN Program Director. “Many people over 60 believe depression is just a part of getting older. It’s not. This program can help you live a happier, healthier life.”
Individuals may benefit from the Senior Life Solutions program if they are experiencing any of the following common signs or triggers of depression or anxiety:
- Changes in appetite
- Difficulty sleeping
- Feelings of sadness or grief lasting more than two weeks
- Feelings of worthlessness or hopelessness
- Lost a spouse or close family member
- Loss of energy
- Loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities
- Recently experienced a traumatic event
After completing an assessment with the Psychiatrist/Medical Director, an individualized treatment plan will be developed, including both group and individual therapy. Participants will meet for group therapy up to three times a week in a supportive, encouraging environment. Participants will also engage in individual therapy twice a month, with no more than one session per week. Optional family therapy sessions are offered, along with medication management and regular check-ins. The program also provides teletherapy services, allowing patients to receive mental health support from the comfort of their homes via telephone, computer or tablet.
