Maintenance Assistant

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Summary:

The part-time Maintenance Assistant performs a variety of routine and unskilled tasks related to the maintenance and repair of the grounds and buildings of the community’s properties.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Performs assigned duties related to the maintenance of the community’s buildings, i.e., painting, stripping floors, washing windows, and assisting other maintenance personnel.

2. Performs assigned duties related to the grounds of the community’s properties, i.e., mowing, trimming lawns, tending to the flowers, and raking leaves.

3. Performs minor repairs.

4. Maintains shop, equipment, and work area in a clean and safe manner.

5. Assists with ice and snow removal, as needed.

6. Assists with the moving of furniture, equipment, deliveries, etc.

7. Ensures an atmosphere of respect and support for each resident and other employees.

8. Completes other assignments within the scope of this position as requested by the Buildings and Grounds Manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

1. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

2. Ability to work alone and/or with others.

3. Ability to drive a pickup truck, tractor, and mower; have a valid driver's license as required.

4. Ability to walk, stand, maintain balance, climb ladders, crouch, lift up to 75 pounds, bend, stoop, and reach.

5. Ability to withstand inside and outside environmental conditions.

6. Ability to operate a variety of tools and power equipment.

Working Conditions:

1. Working conditions may at times include extreme heat and extreme cold and physical hazards.

2. Work may be noisy, dirty, dusty, or greasy.

3. Work can be physically strenuous.

4. Occasional use of hazardous tools and machines.

5. Occasional nights and weekend hours, as needed.

Accountability:

The Maintenance Assistant is directly accountable to the Building and Grounds Manager and Director of Finance.
