Position:                              Safety Coordinator
Reports to:                          Plant Manager
FLSA:                                    Salaried, Non-Exempt – Annual Salary $65,000-$83,000                                           
Hours:                                  Day Shift, Monday through Friday
 
Basic Function: 
 
The primary purpose of this position is to provide overall leadership, mentoring, and direction to plant and management team members to ensure employee health and safety. Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and Sethness policies, procedures, and processes.??In addition, this position involves the identification and communication of operational risks within the facility, and the development of business strategies to mitigate those risks.
 
Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop an understanding of caramel color production, powder processing, and packaging/shipping operations to proactively identify and mitigate safety risks. 
  • Provide strategic leadership to implement, sustain, and continuously improve the company’s ISO 45001 Certification, embedding best practices across the organization.
  •  Partner with company management to drive accountability for safety processes, ensuring procedures are fully integrated and consistently documented. 
  • Champion a culture of safety by observing plant operations, identifying opportunities for improvement, and leading the development of targeted safety initiatives and training programs.
  •  Lead and oversee safety audits in accordance with Safety Management Systems and OSHA regulations, ensuring findings are acted upon with urgency and transparency. 
  • Design and deliver safety training programs, both classroom and hands-on, while evaluating and enhancing their effectiveness to build workforce capability.
  •  Facilitate the safety committee by driving the agenda to achieve safety objectives and goals aligned with organizational priorities. 
  • Ensure availability, readiness, and proper use of all safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  •  Oversee the integrity and accuracy of safety documentation, records, and reporting to support compliance and continuous improvement. 
  • Serve as a visible role model for safety standards, fostering a safe and sanitary work environment and reinforcing safety expectations at all levels of the organization.
  •  Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule and approach to meet the evolving needs. 
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to safeguard product integrity and quality.
  •  Contribute to organizational success by performing other responsibilities as assigned. 
Supervisory Responsibility: None
 
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered. 

Experience:
  •  4 to 6 years of practical experience in industrial safety.
  • ISO 45001 trained and certified.
  • Experience in food processing preferred, but not required.
 Knowledge:
  •  Strong understanding of OSHA, ISO 45001, and ANSI requirements.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create sketches and blueprints.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
 Skills:
  •  Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proven leadership experience, with demonstrated ability to guide teams and drive results.
  • Effective organizational and prioritization skills; self-motivated with goal-setting capabilities.
 
Physical Requirements: Ability to reach, walk, stand, and climb stairs as needed.
 
Working Conditions:  Exposure to heat, humidity, and cold environments. Potential exposure to caramel aromatics and other production-related conditions.
